Ms. Eu Oy Chun

As a Realist Contemporary artist I focus on landscapes, waterscapes and animals in their surroundings. The majority of my artistic creations are inspired by the sceneries and life I have observed through visits to local places of interest and my travels overseas. The beauty of nature, whether in its natural habitat or man made environment, has always aroused deep emotions in me. I hope by expressing them through oil on a linen canvas, which is now my favourite medium, I am able in some small way to evoke feelings of joy and touch the lives of my audience.

Born in Hong Kong but now a Singapore citizen, Oy Chun completed her education at The University of Singapore (now known as the National University of Singapore) with a BSc in Biology. After dabbing in photography and Chinese brush painting for many years, she felt a pressing need to explore her interest in art using other mediums. In 2008, she decided to go back to basics and went under the tutelage of a renowned contemporary artist Ren Jianhui to hone her skills in sketching, charcoal drawing and painting in oil. It was during this period of training that she discovered her artistic expression in oil which is her chosen medium.

Her artworks have been published in two Singapore Coffee Table Books – “Footprints on An Island, Rediscovering Pulau Ubin” in 2016 and “Flying Sleeves” in 2018 by Dr Chua Ee Kiam. Her artworks have also been featured in other local and overseas publications. She participated in the Chianciano Art Museum Biennale 2018 where she received a Special Mention for Merit, London Art Biennale and XIIth Florence Biennale in 2019. Her artworks have also gained international recognition through awards from digital art competitions

James Seet

James Seet (b. 1970, Kuala Lumpur) is one of Malaysia’s most accomplished ceramic artists. His works extend beyond the idea of ceramics’ stereotypically ornamental function, pushing the medium into more hybrid terrain. In the past, he has even created ceramic works that can be played as musical instruments and works that can float on water, along with works that incorporate the mediums of installation and painting. His artworks often feature whimsical or fantastical elements with the purpose of telling a story, or political elements that serve to highlight a social issue.

Issues is James’s third solo exhibition, following Wobbly Sabi at Richard Koh Fine Art, Kuala Lumpur, in 2020 and Memories at The Back Room, Kuala Lumpur, in 2019. In 2022, he was a speaker at TEDx Petaling Street and in 2021, he represented Malaysia at The Ceramic Congress by The Ceramic School. He has exhibited his works in showcases and festivals all around the world, including the Southeast Asian Ceramic Festival in the Philippines (2009), the 2nd South East Asian Ceramic Conference in Fuping, China (2012), and the Workhouse Gallery in Washington D.C., U.S (2014). He has also worked with humanitarian groups such as Women’s Aid Organisation and the Orang Seletar community to highlight social issues through art.

James also hosts a Chinese-language podcast on Astro Radio, where he interviews local artists. In 2022, he published his artist book, Ceramic Alchemy, which narrates the story of his artistic practice from his early years until the present day.

Leo Wong

Born and raised in Hong Kong (b. 1981), with a Bachelor and Master degree from The Chinese University of Hong Kong . After graduation, Leo became a certified arborist and professional landscape designer specialising in vegetation management. His knowledge of flowers and botanicals was cultivated from his studies and career over 20 years.

Having discovered his passion from ceramic art, Leo has since then tributed his passion of botany and creates life-like floral-inspired sculptures. Leo currently resides and works in Hong Kong. He has lived in Switzerland (Geneva) and Singapore and participated in various exhibitions across Europe and Asia.

The mighty nature has always been an inexhaustible source of imagination and inspiration. Leo’s artworks attach great importance to the expression of vitality. He strives to present the subtle nuances, fragility and asymmetry in the natural world. His creations were influenced by Japanese aesthetics, Wabi- Sabi (侘寂). Wabi-sabi is a Japanese cultural viewpoint that embraces imperfections, transience, and individuality, touching on a melancholic understanding that “natural imperfections” are inherent in our universe.
